‘Controlling bully’ Terence Llewellyn has been jailed for 24 years after committing a string of horrific sexual offences against four victims over more than two decades.
The 81-year-old was living in Bentilee when he carried out most of the attacks which started in the 1960s.
His crimes were eventually reported in 2015 and 2016 and the defendant denied a total of 37 sexual offences when he went on trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court.
But he was this week found guilty of 36 of the charges – including a catalogue of rape, indecent assault and indecency with a child.
Prosecutor Benjamin Lawrence told the jury: “This defendant sexually assaulted, in some cases repeatedly, four victims. The offences date back many years. He was a controlling bully. He was violent against the girls. The details of what he did to them were too embarrassing and horrible for them to tell anyone about.”
The court heard the victims were as young as five when some of the abuse took place.
Llewellyn’s offending included:
Taking one of the girls to woodland where he raped her several times;
Giving glue to one of the girls to sniff before raping her;
Using cable ties on one girl;
Slapping his victims;
Carrying out one of the attacks in a garden shed.
Judge David Fletcher told Llewellyn, of Ladybank Grove, Blurton, that his behaviour was ‘some of the most appallingly deviant sexual behaviour’ he has ever had to listen to in the last 16 years.
He said: “Your offending has had a long-lasting devastating effect. There was grooming behaviour. There was deliberate isolation of each of your victims. You made threats to your victims not to speak about what was happening to them.”
Llewellyn will serve half of his prison sentence before he can be considered for release by the parole board. He was also placed on the sex offenders’ register for the rest of his life.
