A man who got his underage girlfriend pregnant has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
Khuram Ahkter was 17 when he had began seeing the 13-year-old youngster, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.
However Ahkter, now 24, has been convicted of a sexual crime after admitting he had intercourse with the complainer at a house in Paisley’s Shortroods and at another address in the town.
The young father looked shocked when he appeared in the dock at a pre-trial hearing at Paisley Sheriff Court to admit the charge.
Fiscal depute Keri Marshall said: “In 2011, the witness was 13 and regularly frequented the Paisley area with friends.
“The witness was at a house party where she first met the accused.
“The accused and the witness began to frequent the same areas together.
“In 2012 ,when she was 14, the accused contacted her on Facebook and they started communicating with each other and began spending time with each other.
“From this they embarked on a relationship.
“By October 2014, the witness was 15-years-old and she fell pregnant at that time.
“A child was born to her in March 2015, however, their relationship deteriorated.
“As result of a police operation involving inquiries into child exploitation, officers attended the witness’s home on September 30, 2016.
“They took a statement about her relationship with the accused. They also obtained a DNA sample from her child.
“This confirmed the accused was the biological father of her child.”
The fiscal added that Ahkter, of the town’s west end, was arrested on February 7 by police but made a “no comment” reply during his interview.
This week he pleaded guilty to a charge of having sexual intercourse with an older child in breach of the Sexual Offences of Scotland Act.
Defence agent Amy Spencer said her client’s had been “completely destroyed” by the matter ending up in court.
She said: “Their relationship was both loving and consensual.
“He had his first child, who is now four, with the complainer.
“He is in a new relationship and has another child who is 14 months old.
“You can be sure these allegations have completely destroyed him as he knows there is no defence to rely upon.
“He realises that he has to be put on the Sex Offenders’ Register.”
Sheriff James Spy deferred sentence on the accused while he called for background reports and a report from the Pathways Project, which works with sex offenders in Renfrewshire.
Ahkter will learn of his fate when he returns to court on January 18.
