Derrick Robins is a persistent sex offender, who since 2013 has been convicted of 19 different sexual offences. Following a joint British Transport Police (BTP) and Met Police investigation, he has been handed a fresh prison sentence after re-offending only hours after he was released from prison.
On 16 May this year, the 70-year-old was released from prison in south London and headed towards a meeting with his probationary team in Croydon.
Officers from both BTP and Met Police were briefed in regards to his release and his potential for further offending.
Very shortly after his release, Robins breached the conditions of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) at a McDonald’s in Denmark Hill.
Conditions imposed under SHPO are written to identify and manage the preparatory behaviour of an offender before they commit a sexual offence.
Unbeknown to Robbins, his behaviour towards two young females, was witnessed by plain clothed officers who immediately intervened, arresting Robins.
Throughout his life, Robins has committed a series of offences spanning a number of years.
Recently, Robins has been convicted for touching himself inappropriately in a high street bank and being sexually inappropriate towards rail staff.
On Friday 19 July, the defendant appeared at the Inner London Crown Court where he was handed a 16 month prison sentence and ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £160 for breaching his SHPO.
Detective Sergeant Andy Jordan from British Transport Police, said: “Robins is a serial sex offender who has a history of targeting women throughout London. He has a history of pestering women, making inappropriate comments and exposing himself to members of the public.
“On 16 May, he made a decision to completely disregard the justice system and commit further offences – it is entirely his fault that he is back behind bars. By working closely with our partners at the Met Police, we’ve been able to lock Robins up again – we thoroughly welcome this sentence.”
As part of his SHPO, Robins is prohibited from the following until April 2023:

1.Travelling on the London Underground, Docklands Light Railway and other public transport within the TFL London Travels Zones, except where using an oyster card, freedom pass or contactless Bank Card registered in his name.
2.Entering any railway station in England and Wales, including London Underground, Docklands Light Railway and London Overground save for the purposes of travelling, whereby he must travel on the next available service to his destination or exit the station as soon as possible at the conclusion of his journey.
3.Approaching, touching or making any attempts to communicate with any female unknown to him save for where it is inadvertent and not reasonably avoidable in the course of lawful daily life.
4.Engaging in any behaviour of a sexual nature which is likely to cause any person to feel harassed, alarmed or distressed, whilst on any form of public transport within England and Wales.
