A paedophile who carried out a catalogue of sick crimes before going on the run to Spain has been sent to prison for more than nine years.
David MacBride (44) formerly of Kirkcaldy was convicted of eight counts of rape, including the rape of a young child, and three counts of sexual assault spanning a seven year period – between 2007 and 2014.
The crimes took place in various locations across Fife, including Dunfermline.
When detectives from Fife’s Public Protection Unit (PPU) began to investigate him in 2015 he fled the country, despite being on bail. Officers worked with police forces across Europe to locate him and, in January of this year, he was tracked down and arrested in Cadiz, Spain.
He was found guilty of the offences, which were against three women and two children, after a trial at the High Court in Edinburgh in August.
And detective inspector Scott Davidson from PPU said: “MacBride is a dangerous individual and we welcome this sentence.

“He has now been given an Order for Lifelong Restriction due to the risk he poses to the public, and we hope the victims can now begin to move on with their lives.
“MacBride attempted to evade justice by fleeing the country, yet due to the bravery and courage of the victims he was brought before the courts to stand trial for his crimes.
“I would like to thank the victims and partner forces who assisted us in bringing MacBride to justice.”

Fugitive rapist jailed for seven year campaign of sex abuse on women and children in Fife
A rapist who fled to Spain was today finally banged up for his seven-year campaign of sex abuse.
David MacBride, 44, was found guilty of eight rapes and three sexual assaults against three women and two kids.
Some of the victims were subjected to multiple rapes
The beast’s victims included a girl of five haunted by nightmares about him “coming to get us” after he abused her while her family were at a funeral.
Judge Lord Uist warned the pervert: “You’ve been convicted of dreadful sexual crimes.
“You may take it you face a very long custodial sentence.”
MacBride, of Kirkcaldy, carried out the sexual attacks between 2007 and 2014 at homes across Fife.
One victim told how the paedo first abused her when she was five.
The girl, now 13, told the High Court in Edinburgh: “He said not to tell anyone or my mum would go to jail.”
He also attacked her sister from age nine.
Another victim, 29, was attacked multiple times by the fiend after meeting him when she was 19.
She described one attack when MacBride pounced on her while she pretended to be asleep at her flat.
The fiend fled Scotland in 2015 after getting wind that cops were after him.
He moved to a campsite in the Lake District but was nicked over claims of harassment.
Scots cops then charged him over the earlier abuse. But while on bail in 2016 he fled to Spain.
One victim told how cops turned her home into “Fort Knox” after a tent was found nearby while he was on the run.
A source close to her said: “The paranoia and stress were off the scale.”
MacBride was picked up by Spanish cops in January and brought back to face trial. He’ll be sentenced in October.
The mother of his two child victims said last night: “He should never be let back out.”
During a police interview over the allegations made against him, dad-of-nine MacBride told officers: “This is all bullshit.”
