A prisoner who was serving 15 years in jail for sexually abusing six young girls has died, with unconfirmed reports saying he had symptoms of Covid-19.
Former RAF serviceman Gordon Pinkerton, 75, was a prisoner at HMP Dumfries after he was found guilty of sexually abusing six young girls in 2013.
Gordon Pinkerton, Aberdeen, sexually assaulted the girls from 1963 to 2011 across Scotland.
The Scottish Prison Service released a statement saying:
“Gordon Pinkerton, 75, a prisoner at HMP Dumfries has died. He was convicted at Glasgow High Court in 2013. Police Scotland have been informed and the matter reported to the Procurator Fiscal. A Fatal Accident Inquiry will be held in due course.”
Sentencing Pinkerton, judge Lord Matthews told him in 2013: “You were convicted of what can only be described as an appalling catalogue of abuse of vulnerable young girls.
“You have maintained a denial throughout.
“I have received impact statements from your victims and they say what you did to them has blighted their lives. That is hardly surprising
“I am told that you are at high risk of re-offending, which is also not surprising given that the offences began in 1963 and ran to 2011.”

A former RAF serviceman found guilty of sexually abusing six young girls over a period of almost half a century has been jailed for 15 years.
Gordon Pinkerton, 68, of Aberdeen, preyed on schoolchildren for most of his adult life, subjecting them to abuse at various houses across Scotland.
He raped two of the girls when they were just six years old.
Pinkerton was jailed at the High Court in Glasgow.
The abuse began in 1963 and continued until 2011.

One victim had told the trial, at the High Court in Aberdeen, that she attempted to kill herself last year because she was ashamed of what had happened to her.
Last night, one of his victims said she hoped the Aberdeen pensioner – who showed no emotion as he was sentenced yesterday – died in jail. The 68-year-old was convicted after a trial at the High Court in Aberdeen.

Child rapist convicted after 50 years of abuse
A former RAF serviceman has been found guilty of sexually abusing six young girls over a period of almost 50 years.
Gordon Pinkerton, 68, preyed on school children for most of his adult life, subjecting them to abuse at various houses across Scotland.
He raped two of the girls when they were just six years old.
Pinkerton, from Aberdeen, was convicted after a trial at the city’s High Court. Sentence was deferred and he was remanded in custody.
The trial heard he began abusing young girls while serving at an RAF base in Scotland in 1963. The abuse continued until 2011.
He was found guilty of offences including two rapes, five charges of lewd and libidinous practices and behaviour and one sexual assault.
Pinkerton turned up at the family home of one of his six victims dressed in his uniform and abused her after telling her stories about the Air Force.
Another victim told the jury that she attempted to kill herself last year because she was ashamed of what had happened to her.
Police launched an investigation after Pinkerton confessed to his stepson that he had sexually assaulted a young girl.
Judge Lord Matthews said Pinkerton had abused his victims “dreadfully” and told him to expect a substantial number of years in jail for his crimes.
Pinkerton will be sentenced at the High Court in Glasgow on 9 May
