A father who raped a foreign student as she walked home has been described as “the stuff of nightmares”.
Antony Guy was walking towards the subway under Boulevard de Nantes in Cardiff when he saw the woman crossing The Kingsway.
He changed direction and followed her before raping and sexually assaulting her.
Guy, 38, was jailed for 12 years at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday after being found guilty by a jury.
The court heard the woman had injuries to her knees and back but managed to walk home where she immediately told others about the attack.
Judge Thomas Crowther QC said: “You left Cardiff city centre. You had spoken to women in bars but none of them were interested.
“It is clear from the CCTV that you glanced back and saw your victim.
“She had been drinking and it was apparent that she was walking home on instinct.
“You saw in her drunkenness your chance and ran to follow her.
“You were so keen to catch her you put yourself at risk crossing the road.
“She remembers being on her back just metres from this court.
“You were beyond forceful, you were violent. She was left blooded and sore.
“She had good friends who found her confused and inconsolable.
“You did not even know her name.”
The judge told Guy that he poses a high risk to young women.
He said: “You, Mr Guy, are the stuff of nightmares.
“The nightmares of parents with their children. The nightmares of partners when their spouses go into town. The nightmares of women as you are that stranger rapist.”
Guy, of Richs Road, Cardiff, was convicted of one count of rape and two counts of sexual assault.
