pervert who sexually assaulted a very young boy has been jailed.
Greg Mason abused the child on two occasions, causing him “severe psychological harm”, a court heard.
Mason, 22, denied the charges but was found guilty of two counts of sexual assault after a trial.
Now Mason, who has no previous convictions, has been locked up for three-and-half years at Newcastle Crown Court.
The court heard Mason, of Whitton View, Rothbury, Northumberland, was aged between 16 and 19 when he carried out the offences.
Judge Sarah Mallett said Mason was an “intelligent young man” but that he had “targeted a particularly vulnerable child”.
Prosecutor Tom Storey told the court those responsible for the child “became aware of increasingly sexualised behaviour” from him and there came a point where he disclosed what Mason had done.
The police were informed and an investigation began, with Mason denying the allegations.
However, jurors found him guilty of the two sexual assaults after a trial in May.
The court heard those responsible for the victim believe he will be affected by what happened to him for the rest of his life.
