‘You’re lucky to have me to teach you…’


Child rapist Gary Jones has been jailed for 17 years after being found guilty of a campaign of sexual abuse against a schoolgirl.
The 39-year-old was convicted of raping his victim as well as a raft of other sexual offences over a 10-year period.
Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court heard the victim – who cannot be named for legal reasons – kept quiet about the abuse for a number of years.
But police were later informed and Jones was arrested in 2016.
The court heard the defendant’s catalogue of abuse included:

Making his victim touch his private parts;
Forcing her to perform sex acts on him;
Touching her private parts;
Performing sex acts on her;
Raping her.

Prosecutor Ben Lawrence told the jury: “The defendant groomed, sexually abused and raped his victim. He told her, ‘You need to learn all of this for when you are older. You are lucky you have got me to teach you’.
“His sexual offending progressed and he eventually succeeded in raping her.”
Jones, of Talke Road, Alsager, was convicted of:

Four counts of sexually assaulting a child under the age of 13;
Two charges of raping a child under 13;
Causing a child to watch a sexual act;
Two charges of attempted rape
Two charges of rape.
He was cleared of making indecent images of a child.

Jones will be on the Sex Offenders Register for the rest of his life. A Sexual Harm Prevention Order will also limit his contact with girls.
Jailing Jones, Judge David Fletcher told him: “Your appalling behaviour towards this girl has had catastrophic consequences for her.
“I’ve listened to some harrowing evidence from the victim, and seen you on the witness stand and lie constantly for the whole of your evidence.
“Be under no illusion, your behaviour towards this girl has ruined her life. She’s trying very hard to deal with the emotional scars that have been created by you.”
