A girl suffered profound problems after a sex offender’s behaviour left her suffering nightmares.
It was the “most dreadful” breach of trust and had a serious effect on her, a court heard.
David Hatfield, 56, of Henry Street, Grimsby, denied sexual touching but was convicted by a jury at Grimsby Crown Court on a majority verdict of 11 to one after a trial.
Paul Genney, prosecuting, said that the girl had suffered serious psychological problems after the incident, involving intimate touching.
“I struggled to deal with what happened,” she said.
“I sometimes struggle to sleep. I used to have nightmares about what happened.
“It wasn’t right and he can’t get away with it.”
Judge Peter Kelson QC told Hatfield: “This was a most dreadful breach of trust. The effect upon her was profound.
“This has had a terrible effect on her. This is a dreadful case in the effect it has had upon her.”
Hatfield was jailed for five years.
