A man who was spared prison after accessing indecent images of children as young as six has been caught in breach of strict sex offender registration rules.
John Beckett, 35, failed to notify police within three days of receiving a new bank card, in what was described in court as a two-month-long ‘oversight’.
Port man Beckett was convicted in August, 2016 after obtaining a string of still pictures of category A child abuse images — as well as level B and C material.
A sheriff decided not to jail him despite noting that the offender had shown ‘no remorse’ for the victims of the sexual abuse he viewed.
The shamed pervert hid his face as he left court after skulking inside the building for nearly an hour following his 2016 sentencing hearing.
In his latest offence, Beckett was issued with a replacement bank card in late March last year but didn’t go to police about it until ten weeks later, the court was told.
Procurator fiscal Ziad Ul Hassan said: “The police in the remarks section say that there was no intention to deceive.”
Beckett has been banned for life from working with children and was ordered to complete 225 hours of unpaid work for the original indecent images offence.
The three-year period on the Sex Offenders Register that was imposed on him is due to expire next month.
Sheriff Thomas Ward said of the breach: “The obligation is there for a reason.
“On this occasion you will be fined.”
Beckett must pay £140.
