Man who left 13-year-old girl pregnant after taking advantage of her is jailed
A sex offender who took advantage of a 13-year-old girl and left her pregnant has been jailed for seven years.
She was a willing participant but the law was there to protect under-age girls from sexual behaviour, a court heard.
Iniyan Nadarasa, 25, of Warley Road, Scunthorpe, denied three offences of sexual activity with a child but was convicted by a jury at Grimsby Crown Court after a trial.
He admitted supplying cannabis to her.
Recorder Richard Woolfall said the issue was whether Nadarasa believed that the girl was 16.
But Nadarasa was told that the girl was 13, even though she was claiming that she was 15.
Recorder Woolfall said: “I am satisfied that you knew she was 13.”
Nadarasa and the girl had sex on three separate occasions and, even though the girl consented, the law still demanded that children were protected.
“They are not old enough or mature enough to make a decision for themselves,” said Recorder Woolfall.
“There was a significant disparity in age. She was 13 years of age.”
The girl became pregnant on the third occasion and had an abortion at 11 weeks.
Nadarasa was given a sexual harm prevention order for life and must register as a sex offender for life.
