A man who thought he was talking to a 13-year-old online sent explicit pictures and a video, but then found he was in contact with a police officer.
Nathaniel Edwards, 25, of Garden Road in Rhos, Wrexham, twice sent an explicit picture of himself to the girl and wrote explicit messages in which he described what he wanted to do to her.
He requested photographs from her and, when sent a photograph of a girl’s legs in a school uniform, he sent further suggestive messages.
The “girl” even received a short movie of him indulging in a sex act on himself.
Edwards admitted attempting to communicate with a girl under the age of 16 for a sexual purpose, attempting to cause a girl to watch a sex act, and four counts of attempting to cause a girl to engage in non penetrative sexual activity.
He also admitted making by downloading indecent images.
The defendant was jailed for a total of 32 weeks, and was placed on the sex offender register for 10 years.
Judge Rhys Rowlands also made a 10-year sexual harm prevention order to curb his future behaviour.
It was so serious that it had to be immediate custody, he said.
Prosecuting barrister Karl Scholz said the defendant had used kick messenger which allowed him to preserve his anonymity.
In October of last year, he began sending messages to a person he believed to be a schoolgirl aged 13.
But that person was in fact a police officer who was employed to gather evidence against those who went online to approach and communicate with under aged girls in order to engage in sexual acts.
It was clear from her profile that she was aged 13, but Edwards asked for a picture of her and said he had indulged in a sex act upon himself and had “w***** the night away”.
When sent an image which showed her skirt and legs, he replied: “Don’t turn me on.”
He also sent her emojis indicating a sex act.
There followed a series of messages, including explicit pictures of himself and a video of him indulging in a sex act.
The defendant suggested she should “come over to mine” and, when she said she was nervous about doing so, he told her she did not have to be nervous.
He also sent her a photo of himself at a much younger age.
Officers from the North Wales Police paedophile online investigation team exercised a warrant at his address and a total of 107 indecent images were recovered, mainly at the least serious category C.
There were also more than 800 files indicative of a sexual interest in children.
Analyses showed that he was part of a file-sharing network which allowed the downloading and sharing of images.
