Brave Irish disabled woman tells of ‘Satan’ brother who sexually abused her for 20 years starting when she was just five

A disabled woman abused by her brother over a 20-year period said last night: “He thinks he’s God, but I know he’s Satan.”
Devastated Cheryl Scully — who is blind in one eye and has limited vision in the other — is determined to help other survivors after evil sibling Keith, 29, was convicted of sexually assaulting her.
The sexual predator received a three-year suspended sentence at Trim Circuit Court in Co Meath after pleading guilty to abusing Cheryl, 27, on three separate occasions between 2003 and 2005.
But she told how her torment started when she was just five.
The beast is now on the Sex Offenders’ Register.
Cheryl, who also suffers from epilepsy, obsessive compulsive disorder and hyperventilation, has waived her right to anonymity to expose the evil actions of her older brother.
Cheryl, who is originally from Kells, Co Meath, but now lives in Co Cavan, told how the abuse led to her suffering post traumatic stress.
She said: “I suffer from sleep paralysis, severe panic attacks and nightmares all because of what I endured.
“I was also suicidal, self-harming, referred to Accident and Emergency on multiple occasions and sent to a psychiatric unit on two occasions.
“He should have been protecting me as an older brother but he was Satan. It happened almost every day for over 20 years and I was terrified of him.
“He used to watch me in the shower, touch me and take pictures of me. I was nothing more than a piece of meat to him.
“When he was abusing me he had the look of evil in his eyes and was laughing at me.
“It was happening a few times a day when he lived at home and almost every day when he left our family home.
“I gave up my anonymity because he did not go to prison and I wanted the public to be aware in order to protect others from him.”
Cheryl added: “I was suicidal on two occasions and he’s the only person to blame for this.
“While I lived at home, I never knew when it was going to happen. When it did happen I would shout out for help but no-one ever came.
“I’m so relieved I came forward but I’m still the one who has lost everything — I have lost my family over this.
“He should have been sent to prison and I can’t believe he walked out the same door as me at the court.
“He has a job, family, friends, a house, but I feel like a criminal on the run. I’m the one that had to change and lose so much. I don’t feel like I got the justice I should have.
“I feel like my life is crumbling down around me at times because my own family hurt me big time.
“I will never forgive him and I feel so lost. No-one will ever understand unless it happens to you and I can’t even put in to words how angry I am.”
Cheryl’s trauma started when she was just five, with her brother touching her when she was in the bath.
The abuse continued throughout her childhood and into her twenties, with him often using a make-up mirror to watch her in the shower.
On another occasion, he grabbed her by the shoulders, pushed her on to the sofa before it tipped over, with her banging her head off a concrete wall.
And on another, she was punched, kicked, bitten and warned she would be placed into care if she made a complaint.
During her terrifying ordeal, Cheryl gave her brother — supported in court by his mum Deirdre — money for a trip to America.
She said: “I had intentions of buying my own house with my savings but that money is gone now.
“I paid for Keith to go America and gave him spending money because it meant I would have a break from him abusing me.
“But now I’ve been left with bills to pay and a guide dog to look after while he goes about his life as if nothing has happened. I’ve no doubt the only reason he preyed on me is because I had a disability.”
Earlier this month, Meath Circuit Court heard how the victim’s mum said it would be Cheryl’s fault if the pervert took his own life in prison if he was jailed for the offences.
But Judge Michael O’Shea praised Cheryl for coming forward, adding: “She has been believed and she has been vindicated.”
Cheryl decided to take action after being told her brother would return home for Christmas in 2014.
