A teenager tried to rape a schoolboy after they played a game called “nerf wars”, a court heard.
Ashley Goulding, of no fixed address, told the child to get on a bed, suggesting they could sleep through a part of the game.
The offence came to light after Goulding showed another boy images of babies being raped. Both victims cannot be identified.
Goulding, 21, had put a memory stick in a laptop to show indecent images of children,Nottingham Crown Court heard.
He was arrested and his technology was seized – which revealed 141 Category A images, both moving and still; 67 Category B, and 449 Category C – the least serious.
He also had 181 extreme images of bestiality and 94 prohibited images of children.
After Goulding’s arrest, he made admissions about the attempted rape and accepted downloading the images.
He had deleted them and downloaded them again.
He had previous convictions for possessing amphetamine, knives, and prohibited images when he was 15 or 16 years old.
Judge John Burgess, who sentenced him, said: “You are described as being articulate, intelligent. You are a person who is obviously capable of leading a decent and constructive life”.
Goulding was 14 years old when he tried to rape the boy.
“That was bad, but you were very young and that has to be reflected in the sentence I pass.,” the judge said.
He was then charged with showing indecent images of children being raped to a vulnerable boy.
He was dealt with for attempted rape; possessing the images, showing indecent photos, possessing extreme images and prohibited images.
The total sentence was 44 months in prison, of which he will serve half. He will sign the sex offenders’ register and be on a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely.
