Financial advisor caught in police sting after sending sex video to ‘girl’



A financial advisor has been given a suspended sentence after sending a sexual video of himself to someone he thought was a 14-year-old-girl.
It turned out that the 14-year-old being contacted by Ian Manwaring, 53, was actually an undercover police officer.
The officer had been contacted on social media chat rooms.
Manwaring, of no fixed address, admitted two charges, of attempting to have sexual contact with a child, and of attempting to perform a sexual act in front of a child.
Judge Peter Barrie imposed a six-month prison sentence, suspended for 24 months, and ordered Manwaring to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and 60 days rehabilitation.
He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for seven years and was handed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order also for seven years
Kevin Jones, prosecuting, told Shrewsbury Crown Court that a specialist online undercover police officer set up an account posing as a 14-year-old girl on several teenage chat rooms.
She was contacted by Manwaring who himself had a fake account calling himself Scott and saying he was 43.
Mr Jones said that the officer made it plain very quickly that the girl she was posing as was 14 and continued to stress the age in several internet chats.
“Manwaring explains that he is in finance and also offers her a job,” Mr Jones said.
“He offered to take her out for romantic lunches then going on to relax somewhere saying that he could teach her things as a boss.”
There followed a video link in which the defendant performed a sex act.
Judge Peter Barrie said Manwaring had sought sexual gratification with someone he believed to be a 14-year-old girl and he had sent explicit video footage.
