A former radio and television DJ faces a lengthy jail term after being found guilty of a string of sexual offences against underage girls.

A jury at Taunton Crown Court today convicted Christopher Reynolds of six indecent assaults on a girl aged under 16 and a similar charge involving a girl under 12.

He was found not guilty of three further indecent assault allegations and one of rape against the first girl at the end of his two-week trial.

The jury of eight women and four men failed to reach a majority verdict on three charges of indecent assault.

Reynolds, 57, of Poplar Road, Taunton, and his former partner Julia Wildman, 58, of Parker Close, Wellington, were both acquitted of witness intimidation.

The Crown Prosecution Service was given 14 days to decide whether to request a retrial on the three charges on which no verdict was reached.

Remanding Reynolds in custody, Judge David Ticehurst ordered a probation report and told him he would be sentenced at a later date.

The judge added: “That report will deal only with the length of prison sentence you will receive.

“The only sentence you will receive is an immediate custodial one.”

Reynolds nodded at the judge as he was led to the cells.

Earlier in the day, after Reynolds failed to appear at court, police were sent to his home, where they broke down the door to discover him in bed.

He was rushed to hospital as a precaution after falsely claiming he had taken an overdose.

Reynolds was later seen by a mental health assessor, who said there were no concerns for his state of mind.

Reynolds, who spun records for Apple FM in recent years, committed the offences with the older girl when he used to take her to discos where he was working at in Bridgwater.

He got to know his other victim during his time at the now defunct Taunton TV and met her on a number of occasions in town and in his home.
