A man who was on the sex offender register failed to tell police he was staying at an address where a child was living.

Blackburn magistrates heard the child’s parents were unaware Michael Buck was on the register until police knocked on their door.

Buck, 20, of Shakespeare Avenue, Great Harwood, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with notification requirements.

He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with 10 days’ rehabilitation activity requirement and 40 hours’ unpaid work.
He was ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said Buck had been given a caution in December 2016 for sexual activity with a child.

As a result of the caution he was made subject to the sex offender register and one of the requirements was that he informed police if he spent more than 12 hours at an address where a child was present.

He had told police he was living at the address but hadn’t mentioned the fact a child lived there.

The child’s father said they had not known Buck was on the sex offender register until the police told them.
