North Wales man convicted of sexual assault in France must sign British sex offenders register

A man convicted of sexually assaulting a teenage girl while living in the south of France must sign the Sex Offenders Register in Britain.

Nicholas Allsup agreed he had been convicted of the offence committed in 2005 when he was living in the Toulon area and told a judge at Caernarfon Magistrates Court he had served a three year prison sentence.

But the 71-year-old, of Tan yr Eglwys Road, Rhuddlan, told the court he maintained his innocence and protested it was unfair the offence was “following him around the world”.

Allsup said he was living in France and always wore a kilt and this had attracted the girl’s parents to him and he had agreed to provide English lessons. Later he said allegations were made against him.

“It’s something I didn’t do and I believe I fell into an ambush,” he told the court.

Gareth Preston, prosecuting, said he was making an application for a notification order against Allsup.

He said the application was made on the grounds that Allsup had been convicted of a relevant offence namely an indecent assault and engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child in France.

Deputy District Judge Gerallt Jones said he was unable to go behind the decision of the French court.

He ordered Allsup be made subject of the notification requirement and told Allsup to contact the police officers in court to make the necessary arrangements.

His details will remain on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.
