A delivery driver has been spared jail despite possessing over 500 indecent images of children.
Roger Scourfield, 56, of Dunn Square in Newport had 507 graphic images of children, 754 images of extreme pornography, and 24 prohibited images when he was arrested by police.
Prosecutor Leah Pollard said: “Prohibited images include computer generated imagery or cartoon drawings of a sexual nature.”
When he was arrested a day later for possessing the images he admitted that he was “responsible” for the images.
Scourfield pleaded guilty to five charges of possessing indecent images of children and was made subject to a two-year community order.
Judge Neil Bidder QC said: “They’re not just images on a screen, they’re real people who are suffering.
“You downloading and looking at this images only encourages that abuse.
Scourfield was also ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work and to pay £340 in costs.
He must also sign the sexual harm prevention order for five years.
