Shop worker told ‘underage girl’ his fantasies of white girls ‘in Indian clothes in the bedroom’


A depraved paedophile messaged what he thought was a 14-year-old girl describing his fantasies of white girls “in Indian clothes worn in the bedroom”.

Shyam Harji, 29, was in fact talking to an undercover police officer when he sent a series of lurid sexual messages.

Cardiff Crown Court heard Harji sent “digusting” messages on two occasions in September 2017.

Prosecutor Nicholas Gareth Jones said: “The police officer who was on the other end of the computer was actually saying she was a 14-year-old. He was 27 at the time of the incident.

“The police officer pretended to be a teenage girl by the name of Hannah. She said: ‘I’m 14 – you cool with that?’”

The court heard he asked her a series of sexual questions and told her she needed a boyfriend who “treats her like a lady” and said they could “go on nice walks under the stars”.

Sentencing, Recorder Paul Hopkins QC said: “In the messages with this decoy your language is disgusting and revolting knowing full well she was admitting she was 14 years of age.

“It was clear in the course of communication on September 4 that she identified as 14 years of age.

“You admitted to her that you liked the idea of white girls but in Indian clothes worn in the bedroom.

“A thong should be worn underneath and [you told her] that you would buy a thong for her.”

Harji, of Court Road in Grangetown , Cardiff, admitted attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child.

He was sentenced to a 24-month community order and also made to complete 150 hours of unpaid work.

He was also handed a sexual harm prevention order which will last for five years.
