A man who was caught with more than 900 obscene images of children has been spared prison.
Police found indecent photographs of the most severe category when they raided the home of father-of-two David Williams.
Liverpool Crown Court heard Williams’s life had been a nightmare since his arrest in September, 2005.
But Judge Robert Warnock told him: “That nightmare pales into insignificance to the nightmare suffered by the children put through those indignities for your sexual gratification.”
The judge suspended a 40-week prison sentence for two years, after learning Williams had fully co-operated with police, accepted he had an addiction and undergone counselling.
Stuart Mills, defending, said when police arrested Williams, on September 15, 2005, he told them: “I’m actually glad this is out in the open.”
Prosecutor Anthony O’Donohoe told how officers seized two computer towers and 89 CDS and discovered a total of 942 images and videos.
But it took about 3 1/2 years to charge Williams, of Martock, Whiston, because of the shortage of computers to analyse the items.
Williams admitted 10 offences of making or downloading obscene images between June and August, 2005.
