Paedophile went to children’s section of library to watch youngsters and fantasise about having sex with them


A paedophile made repeated visits to his local library so he could loiter around the children’s section and become aroused, a court has heard.
Nailly Edwards would spend an hour or two in the library before going somewhere quiet to pleasure himself.
He was eventually caught after staff became concerned about his presence and called the police.
Swansea Crown Court heard on November 16 last year police visited registered sex offender Edwards at his news address at a hostel in Cardiff to remind him of the conditions of his sexual harm prevention order.
Among the requirements was a ban from going within 10m of schools, parks, swimming pools, or any premises frequented by children. That lifetime order was imposed following his conviction for sexually assaulting two boys in 2011.
Ieaun Rees, prosecuting, said just five days after the police visit officers were called to Canton library where they found Edwards loitering near the children’s section. The 25-year-old was arrested.
The court heard in his subsequent interview with probation staff he admitted he had been to the library on at least seven occasions in the days before his arrest.
He said he would spend an hour or two in the premises on each occasion watching the children and fantasising about having sex with them. On one occasion he said he stood within a metre of a youngster at the library.
The court heard Edwards admitted he got sexually aroused by girls aged from two upwards and after watching the youngsters in the library would “go somewhere quiet” to perform a sex act on himself.
Edwards, of Lewis Street, Riverside, Cardiff, admitted breaching a sexual harm prevention order but refused to leave his court cell for Friday’s hearing.

Judge Patrick Curran QC said the defendant had committed a very serious breach of the order just days after being reminded of its requirements and conditions and had gone on to admit “gross fantasies” involving children. He jailed Edwards for two and a half years.
Judge Curran said though he did not have the power to order Edwards to complete a sex offenders’ course while behind bars he wanted to “express the very sincere wish” that such a course was offered.
The indefinite sexual harm prevention order remains in place and the defendant will continue to be registered as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Paedophile caught loitering by children’s section of library days after being freed from prison
A registered paedophile was caught loitering near the children’s section of a public library in Cardiff less than a week after being released from prison.
Nailly Edwards, 25, was seen by a police officer in Canton Library after they had gone to conduct a check on him at his home but were told he was not in.
The defendant was in breach of a sexual harm prevention order handed to him after he was convicted of sexually assaulting two boys in 2011 when he was aged 18.
He was in breach of breach of the order due to being within 10m of a place frequented by children under 16.
A sentencing hearing at Newport Crown Court on Thursday heard Edwards was released on licence on November 16 after he was recalled to prison for failing to comply with notification requirements.
But just days later, on November 21, officers attended his home address in Lewis Street, Riverside, but were told Edwards was at the library.
Prosecutor Suzanne Payne said: “This raised concerns as this was a place children could frequent.
“On attending Canton Library they saw the defendant standing near to the children’s area and a photograph was taken of him. He was escorted off the premises, arrested and cautioned but he made no reply.
“He was interviewed and accepted he had breached the sexual harm prevention order on that day by being in the library.”
Edwards was recalled to prison on the day of his arrest due to a breach of licence.
Ms Payne said the library visit was the fifth breach of the sexual harm prevention order since its creation in 2011.
She said Edwards had also been sentenced for sending malicious communications after messaging his support worker regarding sexual abuse he wanted to carry out on four-year-old girls.
He was described by a probation officer as being “sexually preoccupied” with the things he said and described to them said to be “extremely shocking”.
Judge Patrick Curran asked Mr Thomas if the defendant had been undergone a psychiatric assessment since his initial conviction and was told he had not.
The judge adjourned the sentencing for sentencing for six weeks for a formal psychiatric report on Edwards to be prepared.
He was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on January 17.
