A pervert who groomed what he believed was a young girl online has avoided prison after he was caught in a paedophile hunting team investigation

At his hearing on the 26th of November, 2018, Martin Ross Geary appeared at Taunton Crown Court and pleaded guilty to the following charges:

Attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child
Attempting to engage in sexual activity in the presence of a child
Possession of indecent images of children

The court was told that Geary had contacted the online profile of who he believed belonged to a schoolgirl
Geary immediately sent sexually explicit messages with the clear intent of grooming the girl for sexual activity

However, the child did not exist and was instead an adult member of paedophile hunting team ‘Defending the Innocent. The team pose online as children to catch sexual predators.

A team called ‘Net Justice’ carried out the sting on Geary and questioned him about his online activity before ringing the police.

Geary was sentenced at Taunton Crown Court on 15 January, 2019 to the following:

Community order for three years
120 hours of unpaid work
To register as a sex offender
Sexual harm prevention order for 10 years
£500 costs to prosecution
20 days of rehabilitation requirements
