A man who intimately touched a young girl has been jailed for his “clear and gross breach of trust”.
His behaviour was “abhorrent” and left the girl scared, a court heard.
Stephen Thornalley, 47, of St Helen’s Avenue, Grimsby, admitted six offences of sexually assaulting a girl under 13.
Charlotte Baines, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that Thornalley intimately touched the girl on her upper leg.
“She felt scared while that was taking place,” said Miss Baines.
The girl later told her mother and a school friend about what had happened. Social services and the police were alerted.
Judge Paul Watson QC said: “It’s clearly sexual touching. She made it clear that she did not like it but it was conduct that was persisted in by you over a number of months.
“This was a clear and gross breach of trust.”
Thornalley was jailed for 21 months and was given a four-year sexual harm prevention order and a four-year restraining order.
He must register as a sex offender for 10 years.
