A man who indecently assaulted a young boy has told a court he feels he is “going to hell” for his offences, which his victim explained “still haunts him to this day”.
Lyndon Robert Davies appeared at Swansea Crown Court for sentencing having admitted four counts of indecently assaulting a boy under the age of 14 and three counts of gross indecency with a child under the age of 14 in the late 1990s.
A victim personal statement was read out by the victim in court, which read: “It’s difficult to start to explain how my life has been affected by what he has done to me.”
The victim explained how Davies, of Mount Crescent in Penllergaer, Swansea, had stolen “every part” of his childhood innocence and put him in a “dark place where nothing made sense.”
And he explained how he questioned everything in life because he was so young, and did not understand why it was happening to him.
“When I hit comprehensive school and the boys joked about sex I realised what I went through was wrong,” he told the court.
“It affected my social life, friendships and even relationships early on.”
He explained how he “hurt a lot” and had “horrendous night terrors which still haunt him to this day”.
He said: “I built a mask over the years, a mask that was exhausting to wear every day.”
He added how his work had suffered, and that he had experienced suicidal thoughts as a result of his ordeal.
Mitigating, Davies’s solicitor John Hipkin said: “He has written notes where he said he felt he was going to go to hell and acknowledged he had ruined lives by what he had done.
“He has found it extremely difficult to come to terms with what he has done and the gravity of it and finds it very difficult to talk about.”
Sentencing 64-year-old Davies, Judge Geraint Walters said the conduct had caused the victim “severe psychological harm”.
He jailed him for eight and a half years, with the extension of one year.
He has been made subject to a sexual harm prevention order indefinitely, and must sign the sex offenders register indefinitely.
