Man gets six years in jail for raping teenager in Kingston town centre
A Kingston man has been jailed for raping a teenager in a flowerbed.
At a hearing in Kingston Crown Court on June 27, Ciprian Plaiu, of London Road, was sentenced to six years and three months’ imprisonment after previously pleading guilty to rape two weeks earlier.
The court heard that in the early hours of Sunday, April 1, the 18-year-old victim was heading through Kingstown town centre on her way to a friend’s parked car having become separated from them during the evening.
She approached Canbury Park Road, going into Elm Crescent when she was confronted by an unknown man.
He grabbed her and pushed her to the ground into a flowerbed, telling her to shut up.
He then placed his hand over her mouth before raping her.
He only stopped when one of the victim’s friends approached the scene and disturbed him, at which point he stood up and casually walked away.
