A pervert caught with more than 33,000 child abuse images also had a ‘paedophile handbook’.
Andrew Durrant was caught with a book that had chapter titles including ‘Sex with kids’ and ‘Penetration training’, a court heard.
The 63-year-old on Friday failed in a bid to be set free from prison.
Durrant, of Pembroke Dock, was jailed for 18 months at Swansea Crown Court on June 25 after he admitted three counts of making indecent photos of a child and one of possession of prohibited images of a child.
He also pleaded guilty to possession of extreme pornographic images and possessing a paedophile manual.
Police searched Durrant’s home in June last year and seized computer equipment, Mrs Justice May told London’s Appeal Court.
A total of 33,061 still and moving images were found, including 335 in the very worst category of obscenity.
Some depicted children aged just two or three.
Also discovered was a paedophile handbook, including chapters headed ‘Sex with kids’ and ‘Penetration training’.
The judge who jailed him said Durrant had a “long-standing paedophile inclination and interest”.
The “scale and nature” of his offending meant only immediate imprisonment could be justified, the judge added.
Lawyers for Durrant argued his jail term should have been suspended given his age, previous good character, and time he had already served.
But Mrs Justice May said the crown court judge “was entitled to take the view that appropriate punishment could only be achieved” by an immediate jail term.
Sitting with Mr Justice Stuart-Smith, she pointed to the large quantity of images and the extreme youth of some of those depicted.
His crimes were “persistent” and there was the “additional and very worrying offence involving the possession of the paedophile handbook”.
Mrs Justice May concluded: “For these reasons we dismiss the appeal.”

Cosheston man Andrew Durrant jailed for 18 months
A building contractor from Cosheston downloaded a guide to child abuse as well as more than 31,000 indecent images.
Andrew Durrant, aged 63, had been reading up on how to meet children and groom them for sexual abuse.
Durrant, of Oakleigh, was jailed for 18 months today (Tuesday) after he admitted child sex offences.
Dean Pulling, prosecuting, told Swansea crown court the “paedophile’s handbook” had been found by police examining his computers for child pornography.
The guide featured a section headed “the hunting season” and urged readers to “start stalking.”
Mr Pulling said it was so rare for the police to find the guide that the only comparable case was that of Jon Venables, one of the killers of Liverpool toddler James Bulger.
Judge Paul Thomas said “obscene” did not even begin to describe the guide.
Durrant, a father of four, admitted possessing the guide, which was an offence, and 31,000 indecent images and videos featuring children as young as two.
He also admitted possessing extreme pornographic images featuring adults having sex with animals.
Mr Pulling said the material was discovered after police raided his home.
Judge Thomas told Durrant, “The only conclusion that can be drawn from the material found is that you have a long standing inclination to and interest in paedophilia.
“You have an intelligent but warped mind.
“These are real children experiencing real sexual brutality. They are treated that way, to be filmed in the act, for the sexual enjoyment of perverted individuals like you.
“Without people like you there would not be a market for this evil trade,” he added.

Coheston man downloaded more than 31,000 indecent images
A Cosheston man was found in possession of more than 31,000 indecent images of children, a court has heard.
Andrew Durrant, 63, pleaded guilty to five charges when he appeared before Haverfordwest magistrates on Tuesday, April 24.
Dennis Davies, prosecuting, said police acted on information they had received and went to Durrant’s property with a warrant on June 4.
They found he had downloaded 335 indecent photographs or pseudo photographs of children classed as the most serious Category A between October 28, 2006 and June 4, 2017, plus 499 Category B images between the same dates.
There were 31,050 category C images downloaded between November 23, 2003 and June 4, 2017, and he was found to be in possession of 1,157 prohibited images of a child on June 4.
Durrant also admitted possession of an extreme pornographic image portraying acts of intercourse with an animal, which were grossly offensive.
Mr Davies added that some of the children in the images were aged as young as two.
Magistrates declined jurisdiction, and Durrant will next appear at Swansea crown court on May 25.
He was released on unconditional bail until his next hearing.
