The chairman of a Derbyshire branch of the Royal British Legion mingled with, chatted to and took photographs of Brownies at a presentation, despite having a previous conviction for having child abuse pictures.
Derby Crown Court heard how Craig Wilson deliberately kept his perverted past secret from the charity, which asked him to attend the function.
During it he took pictures of the girls, aged seven-to-10 and kept them on his iPad and iPhone.
When police seized the devices from the 53-year-old’s home they found vile movies and images of young girls being sexually abused.
One was of a baby being raped and another of a naked young girl with the words “slut, hurt me” daubed across her chest.
Judge Nirmal Shant QC jailed him for two years, with a six-year extension as she concluded him to be dangerous in the eyes of the law.
This means an eight-year sentence and that Wilson will only be released from prison when the parole board say so.
Judge Shant said: “You made a deliberate decision not to disclose your convictions, that you were the subject of a sexual offences prevention order and you made a deliberate decision to attend that function.
“The original order was made to keep you away from young girls and in my judgement you present a serious risk of harm to young girls.
“When the police attended your address and seized your devices they found a large number of child abuse mages including one of a baby being raped and another of a young girl being tethered..
“I conclude that in the eyes of the law you are dangerous.”
Chris Canning, prosecuting, said Wilson was first convicted of possessing indecent images of children in 2002.
He said on that occasion a sexual offences prevention order was made with conditions including him not being in the company of females aged under 16.
Mr Canning said in 2014 Wilson was jailed for two years when he exchanged sexual images of himself with a girl aged under 16.
He said by 2018 the defendant was the chairman of the Buxton branch of the Royal British Legion and at that time was invited to a Brownie presentation event.
Mr Canning said: “At that event he was asked by another legion member if he would take photographs of the girls being given their awards with the view to it being sent out as a press release.
“He mingled and chatted to the girls and when police went to his home and seized his devices in January 2019 the pictures of the Brownies were on them.
“Also on them were 248 images and two movies of (the most serious) category A but it is fair to say the police stopped counting when they got as high as 250.
“One showed a baby being raped, another was of a young girl being tethered while being sexually abused by an adult.”
Wilson, of West Croft Close, Youlgreave, Bakewell, answered “no comment” to the questions he was asked in police interview.
But he later pleaded guilty to charges of making indecent images of children, possession extreme pornography of a woman engaged in a sexual acts with a horse, and breaching his sexual offences prevention order.
