Man tells underage girl ‘don’t worry, I won’t rape you’ after taking her to his flat and plying her with drink


A 21-year-old man has been jailed after he told an underage schoolgirl “don’t worry, I won’t rape you” before sexually abusing her.
Sam Whiting was jailed for five years at Hull Crown Court after admitting engaging in “sexual activities” with the girl, who he had brought back to his flat to drink alcohol with other youngsters.
The court heard that Whiting, 20 at the time, stumbled across the group of youths outside a pub in his home town of Bridlington in July last year.
Prosecutor Andrew Seple said Whiting gave the girl one and a half cans of beer before taking the group back to his flat, on a journey which included climbing over a wall to gain access to his back garden.
Mr Seple said: “They drank and played music. He took her (the girl) to the bathroom and said, ‘don’t worry, I won’t rape you.’
“He kissed her and then proceeded to engage in other sexual activities which she said made her feel weird and shocked.”
The court heard how he stopped after the arrival of the girl’s brother and grandmother, who had become concerned over her whereabouts.
When they arrived, Whiting fled out of the back door to his girlfriend’s home, where police later found him.
Whiting claimed ignorance to the girl’s age up until a pre-trial hearing, where he pleaded guilty to four counts of sexual activity with a minor.
Judge Jeremy Richardson QC, said: “I don’t think he went out of his way to abuse this girl. Although she wasn’t happy, she went along with it and possibly if she said it would have stopped. But he was the adult and he should have stopped with the girl being the age she was.”
Jailing him for five years and handing out a five-year order which prevents him from being around children unsupervised, he told Whiting: “I shall not ignore the fact this sexual activity has played a part in the debilitating effect on that girl.
“It was shameful, it was disgraceful. You have done a terrible wrong. You must be punished.”
Whiting has also been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register.
