A convicted child rapist has appeared in court after he failed to comply with the terms of the Sex Offenders Register.
Adem Kilinscarslan was jailed for seven years in 2010 for the rape of a 15-year-old girl – after a DNA sample given following a road accident linked him to the 1995 crime.
The 40-year-old, of Sandon Road, Meir, was put on the Sex Offenders Register for life – one of the requirements of which is to register with the police every 12 months.
Magistrates at North Staffordshire Justice Centre heard he failed to register in June this year. Prosecutor Ruth Bentley said: “The defendant is on the Sex Offenders Register for life. Between June 9 and 20 he failed to complete his annual registration as he should have done.
Kilinscarslan pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to comply with the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register.
James Hulse, mitigating, said the defendant was released from prison in 2014 and had moved address in 2015, 2016 and 2017 – which he notified police about. Mr Hulse said: “He knew he had to tell the police if he had a new address which he did, so ergo did register in previous years.
“He did not realise he needs to register every year even if his details had not changed.”
Magistrates fined Kilincarslan £120 and ordered him to pay £135 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge
