Derby pervert snared by undercover cop posing as teenage girl


This Derby pervert asked a 13-year-old girl to touch herself and imagine it was him doing it.
Grant Griffiths told the teenager he had an erection and asked if she wanted to “help him” with it.
The 57-year-old, of Allestree, sent a video of a naked woman lying on her back over the internet to the girl.
But, unbeknown to the father-of-two, “Kylie” was really an undercover police officer who is part of a national operation targeting online offenders of his kind.
Handing him an eight-month jail term, suspended for 18 months, Judge Julie Warburton said: “It is not clear to me what led you to commit this kind of offence.
“You sent her a video of a naked female and asked her to touch herself and think it was you that was doing it.
“Who you were communicating with was actually a law enforcement officer but that does not diminish your offending.
“You are 57 years old and are of previous good character and apart from this have been an upstanding husband and father.”
Sarah Slater, prosecuting, said the offending all took place on the same day – June 25, 2019 – beginning at 9am, from his home in Hardwick Avenue.
She said Griffiths made contact with “Kylie” over a free text chat room called Chatiw with the girl telling him straight away she was only 13.
Miss Slater said: “Almost immediately he turned the chat sexual.
“The defendant told her he had an erection and asked if she would help him with it.
“He told her to think about him being naked and in bed with her and repeatedly asked her if he could see her body.
“He asked for photos of her and asked if she wanted to see his private parts.
“He then sent a video of a naked female lying on a bed.
“He told her ‘you must keep it secret’.”
Miss Slater said the officer handed over the details to Derbyshire police who went to Griffiths’ home on November 28 and arrested him.
He pleaded guilty to attempting sexual communication with a child aged under 16, attempting to incite a child aged under 16 to engage in sexual activity and attempting to cause a child aged under 16 to watch a sexual act.
As well as the suspended jail sentence, Judge Warburton handed Griffiths a 10-year sexual harm prevention order and placed him on the sex offender’s register, also for 10 years.
He was also ordered to carry out 250 hours unpaid work and attend 30 rehabilitation sessions with the probation service.
